- please check back in spring 2011 for further updates -
in addition to the composers showcase we plan to have in the summer, i am also working on a new artist+composer project i hope to launch in the fall.
the idea involves filming the entire process of creating something, and teaming up with a composer to help outline the process through music. if any of you are about to start something, e-mail me at emily@emilymgu.com
our senior year, garrett and i took a massively interesting seminar on spectral music, taught by our brilliantly quirky professor Elizabeth Hoffman.
the seminar ended with a class composed spectral piece which was horrifically performed by us over wine in the nyu teacher’s lounge. the point is that it was fun and i’d like to do it again.
something we can all think about for our debut concert.
we’ll be putting on our first showcase sometime in the summer at a location TBD.
in the meantime, if you are interested in composing any kind of piece for this concert, please contact me at emily@emilymgu.com
currently, the instruments/performers we have at our disposal include:
-violin
-piano
-keyboard
-guitar (acoustic/electric)
-bass (double bass/electric)
-any electronics you may have!
compose a piece, no longer than 10 minutes including one, a few, or all of the above listed instruments.
can’t wait to hear what you guys come up with!!
welcome to the official new york city young composers blog.
my friend garrett and i came up with this idea over a year ago and we’re finally taking some real action.
in the next coming months you’ll find:
- live recorded performances + beer
- discussions on spectral music, electroacoustic music, and sound in general
- a growing community for young art music composers/performers
updates coming soon,
